CatalanApp is a student research project developed by Henrikas Varanauskas a student at Birmingham City University. This policy explains what information the application handles and how it is used. I are committed to being transparent about the minimal data practices.
2. No Personal Data Collected
CatalanApp does not collect, store, or process any personally identifiable information. Specifically:
- No real names are requested or stored.
- No email addresses are collected during registration.
- No payment information is collected.
- No tracking or analytics tools are used.
- No cookies beyond those required for your login session are set.
- No data is shared with or sold to any third parties.
3. What the Application Stores
To function, CatalanApp stores the following on its server:
- Your chosen username and a securely hashed version of your password.
- Your learning progress — completed submodules, quiz scores, XP, and badges.
- Any notes and flashcards you choose to create within the application.
None of this data is linked to your real-world identity unless you voluntarily include personal information in your notes or flashcards. You are solely responsible for any personal information you choose to enter.
4. User Responsibility for Stored Content
If you choose to include personal information in your notes, flashcard content, or username, that data will be stored on the application's server. You accept full responsibility for any personal data you voluntarily store. We strongly advise against including sensitive personal information within the application.
5. Session Cookies
A session cookie is used solely to keep you logged in during your visit. This cookie contains no personally identifiable information and is deleted when you log out or close your browser session.
6. Research Use
This application is part of a Final Year Project and dissertation. This web application is open to the public for easier access for select individuals who will partake in a study. If you are not taking part in the study you are free to use the application for educational purposes.
7. Data Security
Passwords are stored using industry-standard cryptographic hashing and are never stored in plain text. Reasonable technical measures are in place to protect stored data, though no system can guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting me through henrikas.varanauskas@bcu.ac.uk. As no personal data is collected, formal data subject access requests under UK GDPR are unlikely to yield any identifiable information.
9. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with a revised date.
